The process of posting a website about building an ultra simple yurt-home over the past two months has been challengting and fun. I have learned some technical details about making a site go. I have met yurt people on line who have shown me the directions that yurt living is going in North America. People at Colorado Yurts and at Laurel Nest Yurts are taking yurt building into dimensions that offer clear alternatives to those filled by Pacific Yurts, the pioneering leader of code compliant yurts. Because I am interested in DIY yurts, I notice my thinking has been toward the roots of yurt building, and especially toward the simplest, most direct yurt design, which is found only in some Mongolian Yurts. To build green and sustainable dwellings in a serious way requires an exploration of  origins and basics. I am still of the mind that the design that  originated in Mongolia is the one that requires the simplest of woodworking and sewing skills and creates a home of complex beauty. I am still of the belief that to have a simpe life, one needs to live in simple shelter.

Namaste.

The process of writing about building an ultra simple yurt-home has been interesting. It forced me to reflect deeply about what I had done. Out of pure luck, I tripped over the design that was the simplest and easiest one to build. The ultra simple yurt has straight rafters and straight wall rods and hour glass shaped walls. The design originated in Mongolia. What's especially great about the design is that it requires only the simplest of skills to make a home that is complex and beautiful.
